MTCC Corporate History
The Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC) is a Crown Corporation of the Province of Ontario. The creation of MTCC was a joint venture between the Federal Government of Canada, the Province of Ontario and the Municipality of Metropolitan Toronto, and its construction was intended to help increase tourism revenue to the City and Province.
MTCC’s North Building opened for business on October 2, 1984 with the formal dedication conducted by her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Due to increasing demand for meeting space in the Toronto area, MTCC expanded over and under the railway tracks. The South Building became a reality thirteen years later and was officially opened by his Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh on June 29, 1997. Except for the Ceremonial Entrance, the South Building is located completely underground.
MTCC has received many awards and certifications over the years including:
- Meetings and Incentive Travel Reader’s Choice Award as one of the top meeting venues for Service Excellence in Canada
- BOMA (Building Owners & Managers Association) Award of Excellence and Building of the Year Award
- Designated Service Excellence Provider (Ontario Tourism Education Corporation)
